Insurer Geico Plans to Add Up to 1,000 Texas Jobs

December 5, 2013

The insurance company Geico plans to open a claims center in suburban Houston that will employ up to 1,000 people.

The company announced that the positions will range from entry-level to what Geico describes as “fast-track management” jobs. The Houston Chronicle reports the company plans to invest $8.5 million in improvements to an office center in Katy, west of Houston, and phase in the jobs over three years.

Geico already employs 2,200 people in Texas, mostly in the regional hub of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The company was founded in Fort Worth in 1936, although it has been part of Warren Buffett’s Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway for 17 years.

Geico has more than 830,000 policyholders in Texas and claims to be the sixth-largest private auto insurer in the state.
