Agency E&O in a Disaster: How to Avoid Errors While Helping Insureds

Sponsored Content September 20, 2017

热点黑料 Journal’s Academy of 热点黑料 announced an exclusive online discussion called “After the Storm: Preventing Agent E&O Claims in a Disaster” to be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.

热点黑料 Journal’s Academy Director Patrick Wraight will facilitate the conversation with the Florida Association of 热点黑料 Agents’ (FAIA) David Thompson, insurance educator for more than 20 years, and Dan Britto, professional liability attorney with the law offices of William W. Price, P.A. of West Palm Beach, Fla.

“After the storm passes over and the claims start to come in, the risk for the insurance agent rises,” Wraight said. “We are all familiar with the results of a hurricane: homes and buildings damaged, insured and uninsured losses, lives turned upside down, and communities that come together to rebuild.”

However, according to Wraight, one risk often overlooked by insurance industry outsiders is the risk to insurance agents in a post-disaster world.

“When the insurance company denies the claim, agents can find themselves involved in the claim in an uncomfortable way,” Wraight said. “That’s when the agent’s errors and omissions (E&O) insurance kicks in.”

This hour-long conversation on agency E&O will address:

  • What coverages, if left unaddressed, can create an E&O exposure for agents?
  • Can binding coverage in a hurry create an E&O exposure?
  • Isn’t it good enough to get the insured an NFIP policy?
